DRAWING SPACE, THE PHILLIPS COLLECTION, WASHINGTON D.C, USA, 2012
2 June - 9 September 2012
DRAWING SPACE is the first major U.S. exhibition of drawings for Antony Gormley, following the recent presentation of his drawings at the Museo d'Arte Contemporane Roma (MACRO) in 2010, as well as the British Museum, London, in 2002. The exhibition introduces a wide array of works on paper and two sculptures.
'The exhibition will bring together more than 70 works on paper varying in scale and technique. Spanning 1981 to 2010, they reveal Gormley's ongoing interest in line and mark-making as the most immediate tracing of both visible and invisible worlds, perceptual and imaginary realities. The exhibition doe snot follow a linear chronology of the artist's development, but rather offers insight into Gormley's rich and diverse practice of drawing, which, much like his sculpture, lingers between figuration and abstraction, the body and space.'
